Hertfordshire Development ForumThe County Youth Development Group was first formed back in the late 80s under the auspices of the Notts Sports Development Fund. It had as its aim the need to develop hockey within the county starting at U-13 level. When the Notts scheme ended, the group was absorbed into the County Youth Sections. After 2 years it ceased to function as a semi-autonomous unit and its functions were absorbed into the Ladies and Mens County Youth Sections. In March 2003, The Group was reformed as part of the English Hockey and English Sport Active Sport initiative. The Group is made up of members of youth sections of local clubs and local authority sports development officers. It is facilitated by the East Regional Development Officer. For the last few years, Hertfordshire received a grant for a development officer within the County. This was Peter Simmonds. Peter was the prime mover in getting the Clubs First up and running in the County along with the liaisons with East to obtain money for the development of the sport. With his contract running out in April 2009, a new way is needed to keep this group active as the means for club coaches to discuss issues and concerns as well as understand what the County Elite coaches are doing.
