Information about JRPC

A Junior Regional Performance Centre (JRPC) is a training centre for the U15, U16, U17 and U18 age groups which, from 2009/10, will be open to anyone who has successfully come through assessment from a Junior Academy Centre (JAC) or who has previously been involved in National Age Group Squads (NAGS) activity.  After attending a JAC, a JRPC is the next step on the U18 Player Pathway.

Hertfordshire are asked to nominate player from the U14, U15 U16 and U17 JACs. These nominations are based on the players JAC report - this contains an assessment of the player against a set of Talent Identification criteria that EHB has set. These nominations are reviewed by the East Region Performance Directorate, who review all the nominations and the accompanying JAC reports. All nominations will receive an email advising them is they have been accepted for JRPC or not. If you haven't then please inform Simon Holloway, the County's Director of Coaching, so that you can included back into the JDC programme for the following season.

There are two tiers of JRPC activity:
bulletTier 1 – a phase of training followed by two days of competition.  Players are assessed after the training days (see calendar below) and some will not go through to the Tier 1 Competition stage. In Tier 1 competition the JRPCs are grouped into four clusters of three.  From Tier 1 activity, players will be selected to represent their cluster squad at Tier 2.
bulletTier 2 -
bulletThe U16s and u18s (JAC U15 and U17) go forward to play in the England Hockey Board Futures Cup (EHFC).  These squads are called the Saxon Tigers, the Pennine Pumas, the Wessex Leopards and the Mercia Lynx.

JRPC Selection process

  1. The JAC Coaching team assess every player that attends a JAC Session. For a training session, there may be anything between 1 to 4 skills that might be covered in a session, and in addition, the coaches assess team play and the player's attitude on the day. For a competition day, the coaches assess the team play and attitude only, although they may give additional assessment where they see a player using skills well in a game situation. In addition, the coaches may write short comments.
  2. All these pieces of information are sent to the Single System Administrator, who records them in a spreadsheet as well as in the County Database.
  3. At the end of the season, all these scores and comments are analysed and a spreadsheet is sent by the Single Systems Administrator to each JAC Leader asking for their nominations. In addition the JAC Leader is asked to write a short end of season report for all players. This highlights the strengths and area where work is needed.
  4. The JAC Leader Nominations are sent back to the Director of Coaching for review. Where clarification is needed a conversation between the JAC Leader and Director of Coaching takes place.
  5. The Director of Coaching then completes the JRPC nomination forms for the East. This includes where players have sanctioned that information can be shared with the Region, a copy of their JAC report. This is sent to the East Regional Performance Committee for their review.
  6. The Director of Coaching sends an email to all nominated players informing them that they have been nominated.
  7. The processes that the East Performance Committee go through are not yet in the public domain.
