Catherine Lymer News

For all of those connected to the Herts Development Group or involved with JDC and JAC hockey in the County, Catherine was our Development Officer , until June this year when the EHB made her redundant. Catherine decide to take a year off and is travelling the world. Richard West and I met her before she left on her travels to say a thank you to her for all the help and advice that she had given the County. We also gave a present.

I asked if she would keep in touch with us whilst she was away and so this page will have the latest communication that I have received:

March 7th

 Hi all,

well this is the last e-mail you will received off me regarding my travelling adventures.

Had an amazinig last few days in NY.

Saturday - went to Ground Zero memorial. It is very good - they have done it very well. I then walked around Soho for a couple of hours which is one of my favourite areas of NY. Went into Bloomingdales to look for a present for a friend - however got distracted by 2 dresses that i tried on. With the greatest of will power i put them back and walked out. Went out for a drink on the upper west with a girl from the hostel that evening.

Sunday i met with a friend for the day and had a great time. We looked round a flea market which was pretty good, we then walked down the upper west with Steph pointing things out. Had lunch in a American Diner and looked around Times Square. In the afternoon we saw a show called "other desert cities' which had Rachel Griffiths, Stockard Channing and a few other famous faces. I was glad that i had finally been to a show on Broadway - and it was a good one. Steph dropped me back at the hostel in the evening.

Monday, i did a tour of Brooklyn in the morning. Walked around Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO, haven't really looked round Brooklyn before in detail so that was good. I then caught a subway to Greenwich to visit my favourite cafe one last time. From there i decided to walk all the way up fifth to the bottom of Central Park. Did contemplate going into Abercrombie but when i saw the queue outside i decided against it. Walked across to columbus circle and had a quick look round the Mall there, popped into youir favourite store Stuart. Then got on the wrong the subway back and ended up in Harlem. Walked another 40 blocks back to the hostel and then relaxed. Had walked around 100 blocks so my legs were feeling it a little.

Today - i managed to meet up with Tara my brothers friend for lunch. I walked along the newly opened section of the highline to get to the Meatpackers district and found the restaurant. It was lovely to see Tara and have a good chat. We then went to Union Square, unfortunately at some point during this time Tara had been pickpocketed and her phone was stolen. We double checked the places we had been but it wasn't there. I left Tara at Meatpackers as understandably she was upset and wanted to go back to her hotel. I walked upto Macys and had a quick look around there. The place is so big that i found the section i wanted and left as soon as possible. Finished the day with a trip to the cinema to see Hugo - highly recommend that film. Had a last walk through one of my other favourite areas of NY - Times Square. Then caught the subway back. I have just finished packing and tried to check in, but stupid STA have never sent me the airline reference so i can't do it online and will have to do it at the airport. My flight isn't till tomorrow eveing so still a whole day tomorrow. One thing im definately doing is a manicure and pedicure.

So i have come to the end. Im looking forward to coming home - not so much facing reality and looking for a job. It has been an amazing time and i have met some great people. America surprisingly was the hardest to navigate and perhaps not surpisingly the worst continent i did travel round. South America still remains my favourite continent and i will be back to look around Brazil, Columbia and Le Paz to Santiago at some point. South East Asia was beautiful and very interesting, learnt a lot of things that i didn't know. New Zealand is still lovely and if it wasn't for the fact it was so far away i would go back in a heartbeat. A few thank yous before i go - thanks to Gemma, Lesley and Auntie Ros for letting me stay with them, it was a lovely break from the constant thinking of what am i doing tomorrow. Thanks to Staurt and Claudia for the great Christmas and birthday it was lovely spending it with family.

Thats it and goodbye and for many of you hopefully i will see you soon xx
